Food pantries prepare for thousands in Rockford to see SNAP benefits disappear

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – About a dozen volunteers fill Rock River Valley Pantry’s warehouse Wednesday morning.

Just outside of downtown Rockford, groups split responsibilities between organizing plastic bags or assembling boxes of food — each features cereal, granola bars, jars of peanut butter and more.

“People need to eat,” asserted Tabatha Endres-Cruz. “They’re going to have to get their food in some way.” As the pantry’s CEO, she worries putting food on the table will soon be harder for thousands around the Rockford area…
