BYRON, Ill. (WTVO) – A 60-year-old Durand man is under arrest after a head on crash on Route 2 in Byron was attributed to drunk driving Thursday night.
The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were called to the 10000 block of N. IL Rte 2 at 7:57 p.m. and determined that a gray 2024 Mazda 3, driven by Timothy Rice, was headed northbound and attempted to pass a southbound no passing zone and hit the rear driver’s side of a red 2016 Ford Explorer, driven by David Brevroot, 61, of Oregon.
Police said Rice lost control of the Mazda and went off the north side of the road and hit a large tree head on. He was taken to Swedish American Hospital in Rockford for treatment and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and cited for failure to reduce speed and improper lane usage.
