Chicago man found guilty of deadly shooting in CherryVale Mall parking lot

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A 29-year-old Chicago man awaits sentencing for a deadly shooting four years ago at CherryVale Mall.

Elijah Lucena was found guilty of first-degree murder with a firearm enhancement following a two-day jury trial.

On April 2, 2022, Cherry Valley police and deputies from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office were called to area outside of Macy’s for reports of gunshots.

When officers got to the scene, they found 25-year-old Marcus McLin shot to death with shell casings scattered through the parking lot. A white Dodge Charger was also seen speeding away from the area…
