Midtown cat Smino aims to break world record for longest jump

(FOX40.COM) — A midtown cat is training to beat the world record for longest jump. The current record was set in 2025 by a cat in Texas that soared 101 inches. Alex Simphoukham claims his cat Smino has unofficially smashed the record at 104 inches.

Simphoukham said their record is unofficial because a cat has to jump from surface to surface for it to count. Smino, along with Simphoukham’s other cat named Lt. Dan, can jump from their cat tree into Simphoukham’s arms. While breaking the world record would be an accomplishment, Simphoukham said chronicling the training has been a fun experience too.

“We like to walk around the neighborhood in midtown, learn cool tricks and eat a lot of treats,” he said.

Simphoukham adopted Smino and Lt. Dan about a year and a half ago from the Front Street Animal Shelter. Since then, he has taught both cats how to jump, roll over, walk on a leash, and go on hikes with him in a backpack…
