West Sacramento’s Elkhorn Village campus is about to get a very different first-day-of-school backdrop: seven new mass-timber buildings, a redesigned front entry and a library built for flexible learning. The modernized K-8 school is scheduled to welcome students this week after a $55 million transformation funded by local bond dollars.

The Washington Unified School District says the campus will reopen Wednesday, after the project schedule was accelerated from an earlier January 2027 target. Most of the work is expected to be complete for the first day, while the kitchen and part of the multipurpose room are scheduled to finish in mid-September; the district says meals will continue through temporary service arrangements and a new outdoor eating area…
