(FOX40.COM) — Wesley H. Shermantine, one of the “Speed Freak Killers” of the late ’80s and ’90s, died while on death row, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced Friday.
According to officials, Shermantine was pronounced dead on Thursday at approximately 6 p.m. Shermantine died at Folsom’s California State Prison, Sacramento, where he had been incarcerated since 2001 when he was received from Santa Clara County.
Shermantine, a Linden native, was notorious for his involvement in a string of methamphetamine-fueled murders that took place in and around San Joaquin County throughout the 1980s and 1990s, alongside accomplice Loren Herzog.
