SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Two local couples say they lost tens of thousands of dollars while trying to adopt through private agencies, leaving them with heartbreak, confusion and questions about what happened to their money.
Natalie and Austin Jantz of Modesto say they expected to be parents by now. After being unable to conceive naturally and going through failed rounds of IVF, the couple signed a $55,000 contract with Evermore Adoption Consultants, which connected them with Brighter Adoptions in Utah. Brighter Adoptions was once owned by Sandi Benson, who also went by Sandi Quick. Natalie Jantz said the process moved quickly.
“It was a lot of paperwork and we had to figure out how to wire $40,000 and it’s a Thursday, almost Friday. So, it’s very rushed, but that’s how we got in contact with Brighter Adoption.”…
