Sacramento man sentenced for firearm possession after park shooting

SACRAMENTO, California — Joseph Allen Davis, a 20-year-old from Sacramento, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley handed down the sentence, as announced by U.S. Attorney Eric Grant. The investigation into Davis began after he was identified as a shooter in an April 12, 2025, incident at Rainbow City Park in Davis, where three individuals were injured by gunfire. During a search of Davis’s apartment, law enforcement officers seized a short-barrel AR-15-style pistol loaded with 23 rounds of ammunition. Davis is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to a prior felony gun possession conviction.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with assistance from the Davis Police Department, the Sacramento Police Department, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office, and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
