SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Californians pay some of the highest prices for electricity in the nation. While many agree this is a complex problem that needs fixing, exactly how to go about solving it depends on who you ask.
At a recent news conference held outside the California Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters in Sacramento, Republican candidate for California Governor, Steve Hilton, announced what he calls a ‘bloat report’ when it comes to California’s energy regulators. He shared his plan to lower energy costs through reform.
“What we’ve got when it comes to the regulation of energy in California – and electricity, in particular – is a massive, sprawling, bloated bureaucracy,” Hilton said. “We’ve got all these different agencies. We’ve got CARB – the California Air Resources Board. We’ve got the Public Utility Commission – CPUC. We’ve got the Energy Commission [CEC]. We’ve got CAISO. We’ve got all these different regulators.”…
