St. Louis Public Schools is seeking to recover money from former Superintendent Keisha Scarlett, alleging in a counterclaim that she misused district funds, bypassed board approval for contracts and salary increases, and hired employees who were not qualified for top administrative posts.
The district made the allegations in an answer and counterclaims filed Monday in St. Louis Circuit Court, escalating a lawsuit Scarlett filed in April claiming she was wrongfully fired after reporting serious financial problems at the district.
The district denied Scarlett’s claims that she was retaliated against, saying her employment was terminated “for legitimate, non-retaliatory reasons” after an Oct. 14, 2024, hearing. The district said Scarlett chose not to attend that hearing after being notified of it…
