St. Louis street repaving project raises driver safety concerns over missing lane markings

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A $46 million street improvement project approved by St. Louis leaders two years ago is drawing complaints from drivers who say a repaved stretch of South Grand Boulevard lacks lane markings, creating confusion and safety hazards.

The project is funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and includes resurfacing, traffic calming measures, lane reductions, and safety improvements for cyclists and pedestrians.

Missing striping on South Grand

Driver concerns center on the absence of lane striping on southbound South Grand Boulevard from Sidney Street south to Arsenal Street, near Tower Grove Park.

At Sidney Street, merge arrows direct two lanes into one, but many drivers are bypassing the markings. There are also questions about whether a dedicated right-turn lane will be added at Magnolia Avenue to handle traffic heading into Tower Grove Park…
