The July 13 Venice City Council started with a public hearing at 3:45 p.m. to answer residents’ questions about the proposed Appropriations Ordinance. Greg Catana asked what the difference is between an appropriation ordinance and a budget. Mayor Phillip White said an ordinance functions the same as a budget.
Reverend James Herrell came to the podium to expand upon White’s response saying it is the legal ability for the city to spend the taxpayers’ money. City Attorney Mitchell Maglione added that the appropriations is reported to the county so they know what amount of the property taxes they need.
The last question was from Debra Power. She wanted to know if any of the appropriations would be used to help clean up the city. White said the city clean up is being financed through TIF funds…
