New shopping center in Glen Carbon bringing 21 businesses to Metro East

GLEN CARBON, Ill. (First Alert 4) – A shopping center that’s under construction in Glen Carbon is set to add 21 businesses to the Metro East, including several restaurants and retailers that have no existing locations on the Illinois side of the bi-state area.

The Orchard Town Center, a roughly 250,000-square-foot development, will open the first Meijer supermarket in the area next spring. Several businesses are already open at the site, with more expected to arrive through 2028.

Project designed to bring new businesses to the Metro East

Tim Lowe, vice president of development for The Staenberg Group, said attracting businesses not already operating in the Metro East was a primary goal from the start.

“When we looked at this market, and we put the project together, one of the goals of the project was not to relocate existing businesses within the market, but bring new-to-market tenants here to Glen Carbon,” Lowe said…
