ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) — For years, neighbors near the old Carr School have watched the condemned building sit empty, draw crime and generate headlines. An overnight stabbing that left one man in critical condition is renewing their calls for the city to tear it down.
Three men were stabbed inside the abandoned building at 15th and Carr Street, north of downtown, police said. The building has been closed since 1983 and is condemned, according to property records. It is owned by Carr Square Tenant Corporation, a group that has not been active in years. And we were unable to track them down.
A pattern of incidents
The overnight stabbing is not the first time the building has drawn attention. A reported attack occurred inside the school in 2017, and a large fire broke out there in 2018. A demolition permit was requested four years ago but was never issued.
