Big Daddy’s 618 opened in 2005, bringing the vibes of its sister bar and restaurant in the Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis and helping to spur a downtown Belleville revival.
Now owner Scott Schmelzel is moving on. He has sold the nearly 6,000-square-foot complex at 313 E. Main St.
“It’s a tough business,” said Schmelzel, who lives in downtown Belleville. “I’m 57 years old. I’ve been in this game for 21 years. That’s a lifetime. That’s beyond a lifetime.”…
