St. Louis’ very own Peggy Winckowski, affectionately known as Grandma Peggy, has been named as one of the USA Today’s 2026 Women of the Year.
The 69-year-old grandmother caught the world’s attention when she turned the grief of losing her 15-year-old grandson, Sam Crowe, into impact. For the past five years, she has hosted the Wednesday Breakfast Club for Bishop Du Bourg students.
The students still gather to eat her breakfast before school once a week, a tradition that began when Sam was still alive. Grandma Peggy has served thousands of meals: each week, she cooks 10 dozen eggs, 12 pounds of bacon, and 200 pancakes…
