Questions arise after St. Louis sirens sound unexpectedly

ST. LOUIS – Outdoor warning sirens sounded Monday afternoon in the City of St. Louis despite no active weather warnings or monthly testing, leaving many to question what happened.

FOX 2 received several reports that the sirens sounded just before 1:30 p.m. We went straight to the St. Louis Fire Department headquarters to find out what went wrong.

Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson said they were still investigating and that the contractor, GTSI, was on its way to help find answers. Jenkerson, however, said they’ve narrowed it down to a problem in attempting to turn off the monthly test earlier in the day…
