St. Pete flight bound for Ohio turns around ‘out of abundance of caution’ after hitting bird

CLEARWATER, Fla. — A plane had to return to the St. Petersburg Clearwater International Airport (PIE) after hitting a bird, according to Allegiant.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the captain declared an emergency to ensure priority handling at the airport,” a spokesperson with Allegiant told 10 Tampa Bay News via email about the incident this Sunday morning.

The spokesperson explained that shortly after departing from PIE, Allegiant’s flight 1027 bound for Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) in Ohio, had to return, landing normally and taxied to the gate without complications…
