PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper pulled a 16-year-old girl to safety Tuesday night after drivers reported she was trying to jump off a St. Petersburg overpass into interstate traffic.
Around 8:30 p.m. on June 2, multiple callers alerted authorities about a female walking along the 54th Avenue bridge. Witnesses told dispatchers the teenager was attempting to jump directly into the heavy stream of cars on Interstate 275 below.
An FHP trooper was the first responder to reach the scene. The trooper spotted the girl right away and gave verbal commands telling her to stop. When the teen ignored those commands, the trooper stepped in and physically pulled her away from the edge to keep her out of harm’s way.
