TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A community of senior citizens in Pinellas Park says abandoned utility lines damaged during a 2024 hurricane are continuing to cause power outages, and residents say they have struggled to find anyone willing to take responsibility for fixing the problem.
Bob Rindgen, whose 93-year-old mother owns a condominium in The Mainlands, said he has been staying at the property and said unsecured, abandoned utility lines are creating problems for multiple residents. Many of whom are elderly.

“We have a bad thunderstorm … the wires, the old wires that are falling apart are now wrapping themselves up into the power lines,” Rindgen said. “Duke Energy cannot do anything about it because they told me they don’t own it.”…
