Former guard at Oregon state prison found guilty of killing brother in Dallas

POLK COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) – A 52-year-old former Oregon prison guard has been found guilty of shooting and killing his brother outside his brother’s home in Dallas, the Polk County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday.

Alonzo Rowell of Dallas was convicted of second-degree murder by a Polk County jury for the Nov. 9, 2024, death of his brother, 54-year-old Tony Miller, also of Dallas.

According to court records, Rowell shot Miller before driving to his former workplace, the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, where he “engaged in a short standoff” with Salem police and other officers, the DA’s office said.

Rowell was also found guilty of several other charges, including first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and recklessly endangering another person…
