Dundee may soon join the more than 40 cities across the state that have added fees to customers’ monthly utility bills to raise funds for essential services.
The city council is following the lead of the city’s budget committee, which voted May 28 to recommend the city impose an approximately $5 public safety fee, with funds dedicated to fire and emergency medical services.
If approved at the council’s next meeting, the fee would go into effect July 30, residents will be notified on utility bills mailed July 2 and Aug. 2 and payment will come due for the first time in September, City Administrator Courtney Patterson said in an email.
