Yamhill County Transit system ends some free rides

Changes are coming to Yamhill County’s transit system.

Despite the rising cost of funding the system, officials have instituted over the past decade programs investing in new buses, technology, facilities and infrastructure countywide. But the improvements have not come without a cost, and riders will now have to pay.

“We’re proud of the system we’ve built with your help, but during that same time, operational costs have continued to rise,” Yamhill County Transit officials said in a release. “The cost of fuel, labor, insurance, purchasing buses and even basic materials and service expenses have doubled over the last few years and still costs continue to climb. Meanwhile, federal, state and local revenue has remained flat or declined.”…
