PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Local and federal officials are warning Oregonians about increased bear activity after recently reported encounters and sightings.
A mother bear and her cub have been aggressively looking for food in and around the Fan Creek Campground on the Nestucca River Corridor, approximately 25 miles west of McMinnville, according to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management Oregon & Washington. As a result, BLM officials say they have temporarily closed the campground in the interest of public safety.
“The bears have been threatening to visitors, and they do not seem to be afraid of humans,” Janet Satter, Tillamook Field Manager for BLM, said in a statement. “For everyone’s safety, the campground is closed for the time being.”
