Salem firefighters knock down commercial fire Thursday night at Lowe’s on Turner Road SE

Salem Fire Department crews kept a fire Thursday night at the Lowe’s on Turner Road SE contained to pallets at the rear of the building.

The commercial fire call came in at 7:48 p.m. Battalion 4 was the first on scene, encountering fully involved pallets appearing to be stacked near fencing materials. The next responding unit inspected the building, according to Salem Fire Department’s post on Facebook, and found the fire had not spread inside.

The Lowe’s store manager contacted Friday morning would not say whether the home improvement store, open until 10 p.m., was evacuated or closed. He referred questions to the corporate office.

A Salem Fire spokesman said the store was evacuated out of precaution until the fire was extinguished.

The store was open Friday morning.

Four engines, a ladder truck and a medic unit responded, and crews were on scene for 2 hours, 7 minutes.

Salem Fire reported there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
