Marion County deputies caught in firefight with domestic violence suspect

AUMSVILLE, Ore. — Two deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office exchanged gunfire with a suspect while responding to a domestic disturbance Sunday evening, authorities said.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred just after 7 p.m. in the 12000 block of West Stayton Road Southeast, near Aumsville. Deputies were confronted by the suspect, 47-year-old Brian Baum Baker, who was reportedly armed at the time.

Early investigations found that “deputies reported that they were fired upon and indicated that they had returned fire,” according to the Salem Police Department. Baker then barricaded himself in the home and refused to leave…
