A 25-year-old man was seriously injured after he crashed his dirt bike and toppled down a “steep embankment” in a wilderness area in northwestern Oregon.

On Wednesday, April 15, just after 11 a.m. local time, first responders received a text-to-911 alert about an injured dirt bike rider near Jawbone Flats Loop Road and Elkhorn Road in the Opal Creek Wilderness area, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The young man, who was a contracted bridge crew worker, was in an accident while riding his dirt bike and fell down a steep slope near a waterfall.

Located in the Willamette National Forest, the area is remote and difficult to traverse, prompting a request for search-and-rescue teams…
