Historic WWII aircraft ‘Lacey Lady’ being restored for flight

SALEM, Ore. (InvestigateTV) — Volunteers are working to restore a World War II B-17 bomber that spent nearly seven decades as a roadside landmark in Milwaukee, Oregon.

The Boeing B-17, nicknamed “The Flying Fortress” during World War II, became a symbol of American might. Known for its weapons system and reliability when damaged, the aircraft dropped more bombs than any other in U.S. service at the time.

More than 12,000 were produced, but by the end of the war, the B-17 was pulled from the front lines, surpassed by newer technology. While many are on display in museums worldwide, a few can still fly.

Restoring the Lacey Lady

The restoration is taking place in a Salem aircraft hangar, where the B-17 Alliance is working on the Lacey Lady. The bomber sat along McLoughlin Boulevard in Milwaukee for 67 years…
