Downtown parking garage troubled by trespassing and human waste in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — There’s a problem at the Exchange Place parking garage in Downtown Salt Lake City that’s been causing a stench in the neighborhood.

Area property owner Somia Bashir described, “We are finding human waste. We are finding blood, urine, everything in here,” adding that her team has kicked people out of the garage at least four times. “You know, it doesn’t matter how much time we clean. If it keeps happening, what are we going to do?”

Bashir said she’s losing business because of the state of the garage. One look and clients are taking off. She explains, “They cancel with us because they don’t want their family or their kids to see that scene.”

While frustrated, Bashir said she doesn’t see a lack of trying on the part of the Salt Lake City Police Department. She told ABC4.com that the police show up every time they call and kick people out. The problem, though, is that people just keep coming back. When they do return, they are camping in the elevators, the roof, and relieving themselves…
