SPANISH FORK, Utah (ABC4) — The Heart Rock Guy is exploding on social media with his mission to make everyone feel loved and needed. He uses hundreds of thousands of rocks shaped as hearts to spread his message of hope.
Tom Ballard has personally cut and sculpted thousands of rocks into hearts. He explained his process, “I cut them into slabs and then I take my stencil and I find the right stencil that fits on the rock. Then I trace it and then I know exactly the right heart size to cut.”
South Salt Lake initiates city-wide call for kindness
While Tom has done his fair share of rock sculpting, he now has help. Tom said, “I don’t make them all myself. I make about 10% of them. I have 28 stone carvers helping me make hearts.”
Armed with thousands of rocks, Tom now takes on the second phase of his work: getting the rocks to their people. Tom has a simple goal with the heart rocks, “If I can make enough of these heart rocks and give them to people, we will prevent a death by suicide.”…
