SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A reported gang member also facing rape charges has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm as a restricted felon.
Raymond Ace Ortiz, or “Gizmo,” 39, was sentenced to 46 months in prison and three years’ supervised release after he pleaded guilty in April to illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition as a restricted felon. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) District of Utah, Ortiz is a known gang member.

Ortiz has an extensive criminal history in Utah, with more than 10 felony cases against him since 2006. Those charges span a variety of offenses, from aggravated assault to forgery. The charges were dismissed in a some of the cases, but for the majority, he either entered into a plea deal or was convicted.
As a result of a case from 2008 where he pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, he was restricted from owning a firearm. Since then, he pleaded guilty to and was convicted of possessing a firearm as a restricted person in 2011 and 2016 respectively…
