SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Utah Department of Corrections is introducing two new Electronics-sniffing K-9 officers that will be assigned to the Adult Probation and Parole (AP&P) team.
The K-9s, named Cypher and Glitch, are specially trained to detect triphenylphosphine oxide, the chemical found in circuit boards and flame retardants of most all electronic devices.
This advanced training enables the K-9s to locate micro-SD cards, Air Tags, flash drives, hard drives, cellular phones, laptops, and tablets, enabling them to aid in monitoring parolees who are restricted from possessing electronic devices.
“I am excited to have ESD K-9s on our team because enforcing electronics-restricted conditions of parole can be very challenging,” said UDC Commissioner Jared Garcia. “This is something new for our AP&P team and we are already utilizing them effectively.”…
