If you’re from Utah or enjoy Utah canyons, you’ve most likely heard of the possible Gondola for Little Cottonwood Canyon. If you haven’t heard of it, the Gondola Project is a possible solution for the traffic problem up the Little Cottonwood Canyon road SR 210 in Sandy Utah, an 8 mile long gondola from the base of the canyon to the two ski resorts, Alta and Snowbird. For years the Gondola project has spread debate throughout Utah Valley. You may hear locals speaking up against it, while others believe it is a solution to the traffic problem on Little Cottonwood’s road, and the debate has been spreading throughout the valley for years.
Wasatch Magazine has covered information about the Gondola Project by writer and photographer Joshua Evan Batterman in December of 2024. Recently, Canyon Guard, a nonprofit organization, reached out to us about important Gondola updates.
Canyon Guard works to ensure there is an adherence to a phased approach. There hasn’t been any official development of any of the phases, but when it starts they want to make sure there is “ample thought and effort put into each phase.” Their mission is common sense solutions through legislative advocacy, community outreach, and litigation monitoring.
