Video premiere: supergroup Primitive Ring drop new single and video today – play Metro in SLC Friday

If you’re a garage or punk rock music fan then you likely know who Ty Segall is. The prolific musician is known for releasing a wide range of music under various names that all stem from the same punk rock ethos. One of Segal’s longtime collaborators, Charles Moothart (Fuzz) launched a new project in 2024 with Bert Hoover (Hoover III) and Jon Modaff (Frankie and the Witch Fingers) called Primitive Ring. Today the band premieres their latest single and video, “Lies from the Other Side.” in advance of their new self-titled LP, due out May 15. Fans can pre-order vinyl of the forthcoming album via In the Red Records.

The band has already embarked on a national tour, with a stop at Metro Music Hall in Salt Lake City on Friday, April 17 opening for Segall. Tickets are still available via 24 Tix.

The new track and video are just what you’d expect if you’re already familiar with this Los Angeles area crew. Hard-charging progressive, psychedelic rock n roll and a supercool, roto-scope-like video directed by Jenny Baumert featuring animations and editing from Arturo Baston. The clip shows the three gifted musicians in what appears to be mid-jam out from the beginning. Modaff’s drums sound like he has four arms, while Moothart plays ridiculous guitar parts that result in punishing psych-punk rock riffs accented by Bert Hoover’s aggressive bass lines and emotive, visceral vocal style…
