Road officials are warning drivers of major delays in San Antonio after an 18-wheeler crash on Friday, May 29. The collision happened at around 5 a.m., and commuters are still feeling its impact.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) says it occurred on I-35 South, not far from Nacogdoches Road. The stretch of lane from Loop 1604 to Anderson (Exit 172) and TX-218 (Exit 171) is shut down as a result. According to the traffic monitoring site Sig Alert, a construction vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler hauling construction barrels.
Travelers in the area could be waiting up to two hours. Drivers are backed up all the way to FM-1103 and Hubertus Road, which is seven exits back. Authorities are diverting traffic to the frontage road and recommend taking Nacogdoches Road as an alternate option.
TxDOT cameras show that vehicles are completely stopped, and police are at the scene. Folks are moving at around 6 mph, Sig Alert shows. It’s unclear what caused the crash. There is no word on when the lanes will reopen…
