A popular spot for soup dumplings and Sichuan-style dishes has closed its doors on San Antonio’s Northwest Side, but the space it left behind at University Square shopping center will not be vacant for long.
Tiger Chinese Cuisine, a Sichuan restaurant with origins in Houston, is no longer serving customers in San Antonio after the location ceased operations. In its place, a local Sichuan restaurant, Ping’s Sichuan Kitchen, will open its second location. MySA confirmed the news via an email exchange with a Ping’s representative.
“Yes, Ping’s Sichuan Kitchen is taking over the space formerly occupied by Tiger Chinese Cuisine. We are very excited to open a second restaurant!” the rep told MySA.
While an opening date for the new Ping’s location has not yet been set, the restaurant is already remodeling the former Tiger Chinese suite, adding its own touches to the space. Ping’s aims to open later this month, though that estimate is subject to change given all the moving parts. MySA also attempted to contact Tiger Chinese Cuisine by phone and on social media, but we did not receive a response at the time of publishing.
Ping’s Sichuan Kitchen recently celebrated its one-year anniversary at its Stone Oak home, where owner Ping Xia opened the first location in 2025. The restaurant offers a range of regional Chinese dishes, including soup dumplings, Dongpo pork, dan dan noodles and spicy cumin lamb. Stay tuned for more updates on Ping’s second location…
