Bexar County deputy allegedly drove into 62-year-old pedestrian and didn’t call EMS

A Bexar County sheriff’s deputy is under investigation over allegations that he struck a 62-year-old man with his patrol car outside a Northeast Side hotel and failed to call for help even though the man suffered a possible head injury.

The pedestrian who was hit, John Zielinski, had locked himself out of his room at the Extended Stay SA hotel at 9735 N. Interstate 35 on the morning of June 2, according to family members and his attorney. Zielinski then went out in search of his ex-girlfriend, who lives with him at the hotel and acts as a caretaker. He has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and requires frequent assistance, family members said.

Security footage from the hotel reviewed by the San Antonio Express-News shows Zielinski, who walks with a limp, slowly making his way across a hotel driveway along the I-35 access road when deputy Christopher Terrazas approaches in his vehicle at 11:49 a.m…
