Alamo Colleges to propose tax rate increase. Here’s the cost for homeowners

The Alamo Colleges District adopted a $585.8 million budget Saturday with plans to raise the property tax rate for the first time in more than a decade.

The 2026-27 budget was approved unanimously by the district’s board, which will hold a public hearing and take action on a tax rate in August or September, officials said.

The district’s enrollment has mushroomed from 64,000 students in 2021 to a projected 95,000 this fall, but officials haven’t raised the property tax rate since 2013. District leaders said they would need to do so to close a $27 million budget shortfall…
