Texas BBQ giant heats up Alamo City takeover as new Pearl-area spot takes shape

San Antonio’s Broadway is an ever-developing corridor, especially the dense stretch that runs parallel to the Pearl, which has its own ever-changing ecosystem. In due time, that area will be tinged with the enticing smell of smoked meats, as a titan of Texas barbecue makes progress on its first San Antonio location.

Terry Black’s Barbecue has been cooking up its San Antonio location on Broadway for a few years, finally breaking ground in 2025. MySA has been monitoring the progress of the new location, which first landed on our radar back in January 2024. At the time, we reported that the barbecue restaurant would open alongside adjacent businesses and structures, including a parking garage, a hotel, a bathhouse and an additional restaurant.

In August 2025, the lot at 2100 Broadway was being razed to make room for the new Terry Black’s Barbecue. On Sunday, June 14, MySA drove by the site and took note of the progress being made. The basic elements of walls and roofing have gone up for the restaurant, though any personalization, like paint or signage, appears to be a way away. Still, the empty lot is now occupied by a building that will eventually serve up brisket, ribs and more.

MySA reached out to Terry Black’s Barbecue in hopes of getting a timeline or expected completion date on the San Antonio location, but we have not received a response from the business…
