Massive I-35 expansion project leads to months-long closure

Drivers in Schertz near San Antonio’s Northeast Side will be dealing with a new long-term closure as work ramps up on the Texas Department of Transportation’s massive I-35 expansion project. The traffic impact is expected to last through the summer.

The city of Schertz announced the northbound I-35 on-ramp located north of Corporate Drive closed June 17 and will remain closed through August 2026. Crews will complete drainage installation and other road work for TxDOT’s Northeast Expansion, or NEX, program.

During construction, motorists will be detoured to the next northbound entrance at Schertz Parkway, according to the city.
