In a new study from Rent Cafe, a nationwide apartment search company, researchers examined how far a $1,500 budget can go. The team gathered data from 200 of the most populous cities in the U.S., focusing on the price per square foot reflected in average rents and apartment sizes in multifamily properties with 50 or more units, according to the report. The data comes from Yardi Matrix and the U.S. Census Bureau.
The findings vary widely, with New York offering just 210 square feet, “roughly the size of a dorm room,” per Rent Cafe, and McAllen, considered to have one of the lowest costs of living in the nation, featuring properties with three to four bedrooms for the same price.
