The flooding threat has increased for parts of Texas this week as rain is expected throughout the region.
The NWS in Midland/Odessa has issued a flood watch through Thursday evening across the South-West portion of the state south of the Midland/Odessa area and stretching as far east as San Antonio.
A weak upper-level low is expected to remain over west Texas, slowly moving west-southwest throughout the week. Mid-level inverted troughing combined with deep southeasterly flow at the surface advecting Gulf moisture will provide a favorable setup for scattered to numerous heavy showers/storms each day.
“A Flash Flood Watch goes into effect this evening at 10 p.m. CDT and continues through to Thursday evening,” the Midland/Odessa NWS said. “Similarly high PWATs and a lack of stronger upper-level winds will allow for storms that develop to move slowly or train together, leading to bouts of heavy rainfall and a threat for flash flooding.”
