Heavy rains continue to pummel South Central Texas. As roadways flood and residents are urged to seek higher ground to escape rising river and stream levels, power outages are sweeping counties and towns west of San Antonio. One of the largest energy providers for this region, AEP Texas, is reporting 129 outages impacting more than 1,500 residents.
Uvalde, about 80 miles southwest of San Antonio, has been hit extremely hard by the days of downpours. Major highways have been shut down in and out of the city, evacuations have been urged and ordered and now the homes are going dark.
There are more than 400 homes without power in Uvalde, according to an AEP Texas outage map. Medina Electric Cooperative, which also supplies power to homes in Uvalde County, shows more than 1,500 customers without lights. Those numbers continue to climb rapidly.
