Major weekend highway closures in San Antonio will start within hours. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will shut down a few stretches of Loop 1604 and Interstate 10 (I-10). As part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, TxDOT will close the eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 frontage roads at the interchange, along with the eastbound and westbound I-10 mainlanes.
The closures are scheduled nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Friday, July 17, and continuing through Monday, July 20. All flyover ramps at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange will remain open during the work. Drivers should follow posted detour signs and allow extra time when traveling through the area.
Eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road detour
Drivers seeking to continue through the interchange or enter the eastbound Loop 1604 mainlanes will take the eastbound I-10 frontage road and use the turnaround at UTSA Boulevard. They will then return on the westbound I-10 frontage road, reconnect with the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road and use the first available entrance ramp.
Westbound Loop 1604 frontage road detour
Drivers will enter the westbound I-10 frontage road and use the turnaround at La Cantera Parkway. They will then travel along the eastbound I-10 frontage road before reconnecting with the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road.
Eastbound I-10 mainlanes detour
Drivers will take Exit 555 and continue along the eastbound I-10 frontage road through the Loop 1604 interchange. They may return to the mainlanes using the first available entrance ramp.
Westbound I-10 mainlanes detour
Drivers should take the exit before the interchange, continue along the westbound I-10 frontage road and use the first available entrance ramp after the construction zone.
