A federal jury in San Antonio will decide the fate of a Honduran man who is accused of assaulting two detention guards at the Karnes Immigration Detention Facility.
Jorge Alberto Maradiaga-Carias faces two counts of assaulting, resisting or impeding a federal officer. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia on Monday seated a jury to hear the case.
Federal officials say Maradiaga-Carias was being held at the facility in Karnes City, which is about 50 miles from central San Antonio, when he and other detainees protested about what they were being served for lunch on on Sept. 28, 2025.
