This week has proven difficult for the dedicated customers of Singhs Vietnamese, a local favorite that confirmed the abrupt closure of its San Antonio locations on Monday, August 10. As the news of the business closing circulated, hundreds of comments, posts, memes and videos flooded social media expressing the strong emotions that come with losing a staple restaurant.
MySA was first to report on the Singhs closure on Monday morning, and later that day, we produced a video version of the story that went out on various platforms. The reader response was immediate, and comments continue to roll in as of Tuesday morning about the neighborhood staple that was gone in a flash. Between the seas of sad face and heartbreak emojis, San Antonians were not shy about sharing their grief.
“Literally the best banh mi’s, wings, noodle bowls, and rice bowls. Thank you Louis for blessing our city with your recipes that we will forever cherish,” said Instagram user crod132.
“Support small business when you can. It makes a big difference in their daily sales,” one Facebook user commented. A number of comments reiterated that other Vietnamese restaurants, like SP Cafe and Pho Kim Long, were still around to serve San Antonio.
Sentiments continued to range from sadness to disappointment to concern for the people who kept Singhs going all these years, especially the front-facing employees who are now out of a job…
