A San Antonio sportscaster shocked viewers by announcing his sudden departure from the anchor desk, and he thanked the city in one final broadcast.
Former KENS 5 sports anchor Nate Ryan revealed his exit from the station on Tuesday, November 4. On social media, he said, “It’s been the ultimate privilege to represent this station, continuing a legacy that’s spanned over 75 years. To have led the Sports Department for the last 4+ years is one of the honors of my life.” His last broadcasts were 6 and 10 p.m. Thursday evening, during which he looked back on his time and thanked the city.
“I love what I do,” Ryan said. “When KENS hired me, people kept telling me, ‘You’re the third sports anchor in 50 years to hold that seat. No pressure.’ Tonight ends that run, but every single day over the last four-plus years, my colleagues trusted me with the rope when oftentimes, it seemed short. For that, I thank my bosses, news director Jack Acosta, every producer, every director, an everyone behind the scenes for their patience. Same for our sports crew — photographer Jason Eggleston and I have traveled coast to coast giving you live coverage that I couldn’t do alone. You see his work every night.”…
