Key witness in fatal federal shooting’s death ruled accidental after crash in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Joshua Orta’s death an accident caused by conflagration injuries.

Orta, 25, was identified as a key witness in a separate fatal shooting involving federal agents. He died in a crash in late February near the I-35 Frontage Road and Powell Road.

San Antonio police say Orta was speeding when he attempted to take a curved exit and lost control of the vehicle. The car crashed into a pole and caught fire. Several others inside the vehicle were able to escape and attempted to rescue Orta, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS…
