Text saying “I just boarded the train” was his last; train boxcar heat killed migrant

SAN ANTONIO, Tx — Carlos Eduardo Reyes Ramirez is one of seven undocumented immigrants who died in a train boxcar. His family says he called San Antonio home for 26 years before he was deported back to Mexico last year. His family says it broke his heart to hear his 7-year-old daughter crying for him every day.

His family had no idea he was planning to cross the border until he was already on the train.

“I just boarded the train bound to San Antonio,” was the last text Ramirez’s wife received from him the Saturday before his body was found along with six others. Ramirez’s body was found on May 11 after he climbed into a boxcar that can reach temperatures as high as 160 degrees…
