A new month means a new closure in the ongoing overhaul of Loop 1604. Starting on May 1, San Antonio drivers will have to reroute their trip to the Shops at La Cantera. In fact, it’ll add a couple of lights and intersections to the journey for some commuters.
For years, getting to that mall along westbound Loop 1604 has been pretty simple – there’s been an exit to La Cantera Parkway that takes drivers directly to the road that connects the mall to The RIM. That exit will cease to exist on May 1.
“This permanent closure is expected to begin Friday, May 1, 2026, weather permitting,” the Texas Department of Transportation warns.
Now, folks no westbound Loop 1604 hoping to get to the shops will need to exit before the I-10 intersection with Loop 1604. They’ll then need to take the access road under the stacked highways, through two lights and continue until they reach La Cantera Parkway, says TxDOT…
